The Umbrella Academy Wallpapers

The Umbrella Academy is a really excellent looking program with a wonderful musical soundtrack, and it’s these stylistic trappings that will pull you in from the first episode. It’s a little bit steampunk, a little bit noir. At first sight, the series seems to be Watchmen-meets-Deadpool-meets-X-men – an enormous project – that might go amazingly well, or tragically wrong, based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comic novels of the same name, and starring superheroes with severe daddy problems.

In the opening scene, we learn that on the same day in 1989, 43 women from all over the globe – some of whom were not even pregnant until minutes before – gave birth to superhuman children. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a wealthy, was able to adopt seven of the 43. Of course, ‘adopt’ is a hard term to use here, given Hargreeves’ lack of interest in becoming a father figure. He maintained his interaction with the kids insultingly impersonal (referring to them by their number, which was assigned to them based on their particular usefulness rather than their names), and he spent the most of their time together preparing them all to “save the world.” Except for Number 7, i.e., Vanya, whom he regarded as “average.” They are caught in their commonplace arguing about their unjust employers, organization’s bureaucracy, and poor pay, although plainly operating on some magical plane of reality including time travel, changing the course of history, and so on.

This program has a lot of intriguing characters, and the tiny tidbits of their traumatic history that it feeds you at the start piques your attention and pulls you in. Given that the program’s fundamental concept is about a dysfunctional family and how their terrible/awkward relationship with their father and siblings has influenced their lives, the show disappoints with its underdeveloped characters. Rather of diving deeply into their serious emotional concerns and intricacies, it renders them so stereotyped and one-dimensional that you frequently feel indifferent towards them. The cast isn’t always willing to assist.
