Action-adventure video game Shadow of Mordor was created by Monolith Studios and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It was made available in 2014 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The time period between The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit events is where the game is situated in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

The main character of the game is Talion, a ranger who is slain by the armies of Sauron along with his family before being revived by an enigmatic ghost named Celebrimbor. Talion and Celebrimbor set out to seek retribution on the dark lord and his followers together.

The Nemesis System, which creates distinctive, procedurally-generated opponents for the player to face, is one of the game’s most avant-garde aspects. These foes are graded according to their strength, and they retain memories of previous confrontations with the player. A player’s enemies will get stronger and more challenging to defeat in subsequent encounters if they are not defeated.

When Shadow of Mordor was released, it was well-received by critics, who praised its usage of the Lord of the Rings setting and gameplay features. Moreover, the game won multiple honors, including the 2015 Game Developers Choice Awards for Outstanding Design and Game of the Year.
