Seals are famously known by their biological name, pinnipeds. Seals are semi-aquatic, carnivorous mammals that are distributed in saltwater. In comparison to other carnivorous species, seals possess few teeth that are more pointed and adapted for piercing the flesh or any other desirable item. The fascinating feature of seals is that they contain retractable genitals and mammary glands, meaning that they can retrace mammary glands or genitals when these organs are not functioning. It is reported that the body of a seal is enclosed by a coat of thick hair to provide maximum insulation. Lanugo is the single hair in a coat, and this hair is present abundantly on the body of the baby seal. It is reported that lanugo plays a key role in trapping the heat from sunlight so that the body temperature of the baby seal is maintained well.

Leopard seals and ribbon seals are best known for alternate stripes on their body that facilitate the protection of seals from any upcoming danger by confusing the predator about the number of seals present together at a time. When food sources are rare, and the temperature is low, seals are insulated and energized by a thick layer of fat known as blubber.
