Leopard is one of the most popular members of wild cats that are best known for their light brown skin loaded with rose-shaped designs known as rosettes. The belly region of the leopard is supported by two pairs of sturdy legs that also help in making longer jumps and fast runs. Leopards are best known for their thick and soft fur. It is reported through scientific studies that fur on the belly side is softer than the fur present on the back or upper side. Leopard’s skin coloration differs from individual to individual as most leopards are dark golden whereas other individuals are pale yellow.

In comparison to other big cats, leopards possess a ringed tail which is shorter in comparison to the body of leopards. Leopards have sharp vision, and their pupils are dark black and round. For example, those leopards that spend most parts of their life in arid environments have rufous to yellowish or pale cream fur, whereas those leopards that spend a great amount of time in forests have deep golden fur. As one moves toward the belly of leopards, he notices that spots or rosettes become less visible. East African leopards have rosettes that are mostly round, whereas, in South Asian or African leopards, the shape of rosettes is box-like. Similarly, leopards living in colder regions are surrounded by a coat that is grey, whereas those living in rainy areas have a dark golden coat.

It is reported that the rose-like structures present around the body of leopards play a significant role in protecting leopards in areas where vegetation is dense so that attackers won’t be able to locate them readily. Leopards mainly feed on the fresh meat of smaller animals like zebra, Buffalo, etc. Leopards strategically attack their prey and then eat the fresh meat instantly.
