About Dodge Cars
The Dodge Cars brand is one of the oldest car manufacturers in the world. The brothers, George and William Dodge, were originally part owners of the Oldsmobile and Ford companies. In 1885, they created a small car called the Dodge Model B and later merged with Daimler-Benz AG. From 1998 to 2007, the Dodge brand was owned by Chrysler, which later sold it to Cerberus Capital Management. In 2009, Chrysler was bailed out by the U.S. government and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Fiat then bought the brand and renamed it as Dodge. The first two Dodge models were sporty versions of muscle cars. In 1962, Dodge launched the Dodge Viper, which featured a V10 engine and a composite sports roadster body. The car was a major part of the “New Dodge” advertising campaign. The ads were narrated by actor Edward Herrmann, who would later serve as the company’s spokesperson for the rest of the decade. However, the Dodge brand had a poor reputation when it comes to styling.
The Dodge brand is not known for its innovative designs, but its pickups are the exception. The D Series pickup truck, introduced in the early 1970s, was the first truck to come equipped with an extended cab, allowing for extra cargo and passenger space. The D Series truck was updated in 1981, introducing the Ram model. The Ram model has since become the company’s mainstay pickup. There are several models of Dodge pickups available today. The Ram Pickup line, which was originally called Dodge Trucks, was renamed to Ram Trucks in 1981. The brand continued to sell light-duty pickup trucks and SUVs under this name until 1993. In 1989, Dodge introduced Cummins’ B Series turbo-diesel engines as options. The Dakota pickup introduced a V8 engine, a first in its class. The Ram Trucks brand is the company’s largest seller worldwide.
The Dodge Brothers Co. assembly lines were located in Hamtramck, Michigan, and produced the 30-35 touring car. This car had a four-cylinder engine and produced 35 horsepower. It was faster than the Ford Model T, and some were eventually purchased by the U.S. army. During World War I, Dodge also produced military vehicles. There were 121 different Dodge models in production. These vehicles became iconic and continue to be so popular today.
