It was a very chilly day, so cold that your arms began to hurt as if a needle were impaling your skin’s surface. The wind pushes into your face, making you seem as though it’s flowing thick reddish red blood. The sky was blanketed in dark puffy clouds, which sprinkled little snowflakes upon the road’s surface. A guy stood there in the severe cold, cleaning the heavy layer of white snow off the concrete road. When the chilly wind blows, he has a river of snot running down his nose.

The sticky snot has blocked his sense of smell, yet he can still detect the aroma of the steaming hot chocolate on the roof of his snow-covered automobile. The chilly stream soaks through his boots and into his white, silky socks, making his feet numb. His feet feel as though they’ve walked into a frigid sea. He looked as though he had fallen through ice and was stranded there. Around his black rubber boot, the massive mound of ice white snow seems almost like quicksand. People with foggy forms sweep large mounds of snow off the walkways. They scratch and pick at the gleaming white ice that clings to the pavement like a little child clutching his mother’s hand.

His feet still tingle like he’s walking on pins and needles. His palms are sweaty from gripping the curved metal shaft that is linked to a socket that holds the blade. The blade pierces the heavy powdered snow as it is taken from the never-ending mound. Slushy snow and sparkling shards of ice fill the jet-black shovel. End of December was usually tough, but he had given up city life for this rare savage beauty that pains every breath you take and freezes your fingertips but gives you so much pleasure and enjoyment that you would give up everything to see nature in such a pure and rare form.
